By Rathindra Kuruwita
The deadline for the submission of applications for postal votes has been extended until midnight 09 August.
Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake said completed applications must be handed over to District Returning Officers through the District Election Office on or before 09 August.
Heads of all media institutions were summoned to the Elections Commission yesterday.
“There were two meetings. In the morning, we met heads of all media institutions. In the afternoon, we met the Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media, Director General of Government Information and officials from the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC).
“The second meeting was about announcing election results,” he said. Rathnayake added that Ministry secretaries and additional secretaries have been summoned to the Commission today (06).
Executive Director of People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Rohana Hettiarachchi told The Island that nearly 60 complaints about election law violations had been reported by Monday morning.
Hettiarachchi said most of these complaints were against the misuse of state power and resources.
The complaints included issues related to the distribution of goods, appointments, and transfers, as well as the removal of presidents and chairpersons from state and corporate positions, Hettiarachchi added.
