De Mazenod book final berth as Sasmitha shines with five wickets

Left-arm spinner Dinidu Sasmitha grabbed five wickets including a wicket each in three consecutive overs to lead De Mazenod College to a huge 138 runs victory over St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in the semi-finals of the Under 17 Division I cricket tournament at Katunayake yesterday.

Chasing a target of 232 runs to win the Sebs were bowled out for 93 runs as Sasmitha triggered a top order collapse taking a wicket each in the 10th, 12th and 14th overs.

De Mazenod will now meet Prince of Wales in the final after the latter shocked defending champions Trinity in their semi-final played on Tuesday.

When they batted De Mazenod made 231 runs with Thisanga Semith (50), Shewan Menusha (65) and Dinosh Jelon (51) scoring the bulk of the runs.
