Contradictions Come Chiming-in
By Lynn Ockersz
Lo, the cruelest contradictions,
Come chiming-in at year-end,
With frenetic shopping peaking,
Amid the chatter of cash machines,
And make-believe winter fantasies,
But public coffers true to form,
Give out a hollow sound,
And moderate to severe hunger,
Becomes the middle class norm,
While elders crouched in hunger,
Resign themselves to a slow death,
On hyper-active sidewalks.
