Canada yet to accept new Lanka HC
Sri Lanka Core group member Canada is yet to accept retired SLAF Commander Air Marshal Sumangala Dias as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner there. Well informed sources said that Ottawa delayed the appointment as some pro-LTTE groups and politicians there are campaigning against the appointment on the basis of unsubstantiated war crimes allegations.
Sources said that the appointment had been held up for over three months though there hadn’t been any specific accusations against Dias, who served the SLAF throughout the conflict.
The Core Group led by the UK is pushing Sri Lanka to accept a new resolution at the 46th sessions of the ongoing United Nations Human Rights Council. (SF)
