Cabinet nod to accept Indian government grant of 22 used class M10 Railway engines
The Indian Railways have expressed their consent to provide 20 improved engines of the slightly used M10 locomotive model to the Sri Lanka Railway Department and 02 additional railway engines and spare parts required for the maintenance of those engines as a grant.
An unsolicited proposal to provide the locomotive maintenance service for a period of 5 years has been submitted by RITES, an engineering
consultant and infrastructure development company in India. The approval has been granted at the cabinet meeting held on 11-06-2024 to appoint a negotiation consensus committee and a project committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers for appraisal of the said proposal and submission of their recommendations.
The project committee has shown that the necessary expertise for maintenance of the relevant locomotive engines has been with the Sri Lanka Railway Department, and it is appropriate for the relevant work to be carried out by the staff of the department.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Port, and Civil Aviation to accept and sign the grant agreement to receive the 22 class M10 Railway engines

It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
