Cabinet nod for agriculture sector modernization program
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the following measures proposed by the President in relation to the implementation of the Agricultural Sector Modernization Program.
• Formation of a national policy framework with the participation of experts in the field in order to get the contribution of the agricultural sector in the role of building a developed Sri Lanka by the year 2048.
• Establishment of a Secretariat for Modernization of Agriculture Sector under the Office of the President.
• Establishment of “Agricultural Sector Modernization Services and Awareness Centers” at the Divisional Secretariat Division level so that agricultural sector modernization activities can be implemented in an effective, sustainable and in a well coordinated manner.
• Making other relevant legal amendments including the Agricultural Development Act to implement the proposed program
