Bourse ambles from bearishness to sprite despite oil price surge
Stock trading was somewhat bearish at the outset yesterday due to the surge in oil prices in the global market but later recovered when oil prices settled at US$100 per barrel.Amid those developments both indices moved downwards. The All Share Price Index went down by 333.95 points, while the S and P SL20 declined by 92.04 points.
Turnover stood at Rs 4.1 billion with ten crossings. Those crossings were reported in Melstacorp where 2.68 million shares crossed to the tune of Rs 442 million; its shares traded at Rs 155, ACL Cables 2.5 million shares crossed for Rs 234 million and its shares traded at Rs 94, Chevron Lubricant 765,900 shares crossed for Rs 141.7 million and its shares sold at Rs 185.
Tokyo Cement 1 1 million shares crossed to the tune of Rs 110 million; its shares traded at Rs 99, Access Engineering 1.46 million shares crossed for Rs 107.5 million; its shares sold at Rs 73, Colombo Dockyard 445,000 shares crossed for Rs 57.8 million; its shares sold at Rs 130 and Hemas Holdings 1.6 million shares crossed for Rs 40.5 million; its shares sold at Rs 30.50.
In the retail market top seven companies that mainly contributed to the turnover were; Lanka Credit and Business Finance Rs 291 million (30.5 million shares traded),Access Engineering Rs 202 million (2.7 million shares traded), JKH Rs 157 million (7.8 million shares traded), ACL Cables Rs 140 million (1.5 million shares traded), Sampath Bank Rs 135 million (877,000 shares traded), Softlogic Capital Rs 121 million (9.6 million shares traded) and LOLC Holdings Rs 97.60 million (177,000 shares traded). During the day 139.7 million shares volumes changed hands in 30446 transactions.
It is said that the capital goods sector performed well, while banking, manufacturing and construction sector counters performed well too.
DFCC Bank said it will list its Blue Bond on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The bond is already listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The stock was down 2.44 percent at Rs.139.75 during intra-day trading.
.Yesterday, the rupee closed at 310.85/95 to the US dollar in the spot market Wednesday, stronger than 310.95/311.05 the previous day, dealers said, while bond yields edged up. A bond maturing on15.12.2026 closed at 8.10/20 percent.
A bond maturing on 15.09.2027 closed at 8.50/60 percent, up from 8.45/50 percent. A bond maturing on 01.07.2028 closed at 9.15/22 percent. A bond maturing on 15.12.2029 closed at 9.55/60 percent. A bond maturing on 01.10.2032 closed at 10.20/30 percent, up from 10.20/27 percent.
A bond maturing on 01.06.2033 closed at 10.50/55 percent, up from 10.47/52 percent. A bond maturing on 15.06.2034 closed at 10.75/77 percent.

Indo-Sri Lanka Chambers forge alliance to drive infrastructure and real estate investment

In a major boost to bilateral economic ties, the Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka (CCISL) and the Indo–Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ISCCI) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in real estate, infrastructure, and urban development.
The agreement establishes a formal framework for both institutions to drive collaborative initiatives, including business delegations, high-level conferences, workshops, B2B matchmaking sessions, and technical site visits. Designed to bridge businesses, government institutions, and project stakeholders across the Palk Strait, the partnership aims to unlock new avenues for cross-border joint ventures and technology transfers.
A focal point of this newly minted partnership is the facilitation of an upcoming trade delegation from the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) of India. Comprising major Indian players in the real estate and infrastructure sectors, the visiting delegation will engage in targeted business meetings, workshops, and inspection tours of prominent construction projects in Sri Lanka.
Under the terms of the MoU, CCISL will serve as the principal host coordinator in Sri Lanka. In close consultation with ISCCI, the apex construction body will curate itineraries, identify viable projects for engagement, and facilitate high-level dialogues with key government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry leaders.
With both nations prioritizing sustainable urban growth, modern construction technologies, and infrastructure expansion, industry leaders view the partnership as a timely catalyst for economic rejuvenation. The collaboration is anticipated to accelerate market access, knowledge exchange, and foreign direct investment into Sri Lanka’s burgeoning property and development sectors.
To ensure the success of the upcoming NAREDCO delegation, CCISL has issued an urgent appeal to statutory authorities and relevant project owners to come forward with viable investment proposals. Stakeholders holding projects seeking foreign investment or technical partnerships are invited to submit comprehensive details to the Secretary General and CEO of CCISL via email at secyces@gmail.com.
Both chambers emphasize that translating this foundational agreement into tangible partnerships and robust capital flows will significantly strengthen bilateral connectivity between the construction and real estate sectors of India and Sri Lanka.
