Bawantha-Ranesh stand saves Thurstan
Under-19 Cricket
Forced to follow on after being dismissed for 94 runs Thurstan posted 278 for nine wickets at close to force a draw to the traditional Under-19 cricket encounter against St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota at Thurstan ground on Saturday.
Deputy skipper Bawantha Jayasinghe scored a century (123 in 177 balls, 18x4s, 1×6) and skipper Ranesh Silva scored 99 runs (in 104 balls, 17x4s) in Thurstan’s second innings total. The duo put on a fifth wicket stand of 143 runs, which proved vital in their match saving effort.
While Vihas Thewmika was the standout performer in the first innings for the home team, Chamindu Wickramasinghe with five wickets and Divyesh Ramiah with four wickets excelled in the bowling department for the visitors.
