AIA and the Sri Lanka Cancer Society continue their relationship to battle cancer 

AIA contributes meaningfully to the wellbeing of our community by donating to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) Rs. 100 on behalf of every new insurance policy sold. AIA signed up as SLCS’s charity partner in 2019 to celebrate their centennial year.  AIA’s CEO Chathuri Munaweera noted, “Cancer requires specialized treatment, dedicated care and a strong support system for the patients and their families. We will continue helping this cause while appreciating the good work that the Sri Lanka Cancer Society are doing in this regard.”

It is an immense strength to have AIA’s continued support for our cause.”

Established in 1948, The Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) is the foremost voluntary, non- government, non -profit organization that supplements the work of the National Cancer Programme. AIA Insurance is a leading Life Insurer in Sri Lanka and is deeply committed to contributing towards the betterment of the Sri Lankan economy and society at large.

Funds donated by AIA over the years are being used by the Cancer Society for the provision of care and solace to needy cancer patients as well as increasing awareness on the prevention and treatment of cancer, which is a rapidly growing concern in Sri Lanka.  The unstinted assistance extended to them by AIA and their Team is what has made some of this possible.

Working untiringly, AIA and SLCS continuously exchange knowledge and strengthen the understanding that unite, empower and support patients and their families suffering from Cancer. Patients requiring long term treatment at Apeksha Hospital are provided free accommodation at the Bandaranaike Memorial Cancer Homes in Maharagama.

The home has 80 beds and five rooms and maintains a 34 bed Hospice for terminally ill patients on the adjacent premises. They also offer special services, as “prevention is better than cure”. SLCS Public Education officers also conduct awareness seminars and discussions across the country. Doctors and other medical professionals speak at factories and other formal and informal establishments. SLCS also offers public education programmes via Zoom MS Teams and Google.
