Ahmed Mahir Didi donates Rs.5 million for restoration of Trinity College Chapel

A distinguished old boy of Trinity College, Kandy,Ahmed Mahir Didi recently donated Rs. 5 million for the college Chapel Restoration Project. He is a  Maldivian national, now based in the Seychelles and is a well known businessman engaged in tourism.
Popular Mahir brothers, Ahead and     Mohamed (deceased) were boarders at Trinity from the late sixties to the mid seventies.Ahmed Mahir Didi is a keen Angler and engages in yachting and promotes the sport vigorously in the Seychelles and has plans to yachting in Sri Lanka, too.
The former Trinitian has promoted Sri Lanka aaa a tourist destination at many an international travel forum and run campaigns on behalf of SriLanka spending his own funds. A spokesman for the OBU of Trinity College said it was a magnanimous gesture on the part of Mahir Didi to assist his Alma mater in a big way.He said with age, prevalent humidity and dampness in the region, has caused structural deterioration of the edifice and its murals and the Chapel is critically in need of comprehensive restoration and conservation.
