The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) had received over 10,000 complaints on various forms of child abuse in 2022, NCPA Chairman, Chanaka Udayakumara Amarasinghe said.

Amarsinghe said that about 8,000 of them were of a serious nature.Amarasinghe said that he believed only a fraction of the abuses were reported and most of the complaints were from Colombo, Gampaha and Ratnapura districts.

He added that given that a large number of people were leaving the country in search of jobs, more children were becoming vulnerable to abuse.
