Additional Secy to function as acting CEA Chairman

Environment Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe yesterday said that its Additional Secretary W D S C Weliwatte would continue to act as the Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA).
The Ministry Secretary told The Island that former CEA Chairman Supun Shashendra Pathirage had been removed by the Presidential Secretariat following his arrest.
The ex-CEA Chairman was released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court when the case was taken up on 13 Nov.
He was released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 with two sureties of Rs. 2.5 million each by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis, taking into account insufficient evidence against the suspect.
However, two other suspects, former Parliamentarian Chaminda Anuruddha Polgampala and T. Fonseka were ordered to be further remanded till 24 Nov.
