Abide by health guidelines wherever you go, expert tells public
By Rathindra Kuruwita
People should abide by health guidelines if they want to protect their lives, Medical Technical Services Director of the Health Ministry Dr. Anwar Hamdani told the media yesterday.
“In the coming weeks people will celebrate Christmas and New Year. Most people are on leave. People will travel and meet with friends and family. This is hard to avoid. However, no matter who you are, you must try to adhere to health guidelines,” he reminded the country.
Dr. Hamdani noted that people had spent a great deal of time stuck at home and that there was a feeling that they should use the opportunity to break free.
“This is not a health problem. This is also a social and cultural crisis, but you need to think about the safety of the family in the long term,” he however said.
He added that all COVID variants had arrived in Sri Lanka and it was only a matter of time that the Omicron would spread in Sri Lanka. The health sector and other stakeholders should work together to ready the health system as well as adopting whatever new steps that should be taken to stop the spread of COVID, he said.
