Webinar on ‘Navigating through Sri Lanka’s PR Landscape’

The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) Asia Pacific together with local industry experts and practitioners is hosting a webinar titled ‘Navigating through Sri Lanka’s PR Landscape’ on Wednesday (Nov 16) from 04:00pm to 5:30pm.

The webinar will discuss various contemporary challenges and solutions, and how to uplift the country’s PR standards. This includes topics such as digital PR, social impact and sustainability, future-proofing the PR practice in times of crisis, and the current and future context of PR in Sri Lanka backed by key insights from the recent survey conducted among agency leaders and colleagues.

Hansima Witharanage, Head – Strategic PR, Reputation Management and Research at PR Wire will take on the timely and dire need for the industry to make a conscious effort to shift into digital PR, and Rezani Aziz, Chief Executive Officer at Adfactors PR Sri Lanka will explore how the PR practice should future-proof in times of uncertainties and how the industry could move forward.

Mushthak Ahamed, Chief Operating Officer at HardTalk will discuss how PR practitioners as change makers and influencers can guide their peers and brands to counter the increasing concerns towards climate change, by not just resorting to greenwashing but instead to play a bigger role.

Finally, Thanzyl Thajudeen MPRCA, Country Representative and Board Member of PRCA APAC who is also the founder of Mark & Comm, will share insights and interpretations on the current industry context and the numerous opportunities and pathways in increasing PR’s awareness and engagement among various stakeholders.

These power-packed sessions will be followed by a Q&A. Tara Munis MPRCA, the Head of PRCA APAC will also discuss how PRCA and the APAC arm is playing a key role in uplifting the industry in the region.

Four dead 32 injured in head on collision at Weerawila

Four persons including a Budhist monk died and 32 others were injured when two SLTB buses collided  head  on at Weerawila at arond 12 noon today (18).

Three of the deceased were women. 22 of the injured were admitted to the Hambanthota  Hospital while 10 others have been admitted to the Debarawewa hospital.

JMSDF ship OONAMI concludes goodwill visit

The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) ship OONAMI which  arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill and replenishment visit on 09 Mar 26 departed  on 11 March.

The departing ship was given  a  formal farewell from the Sri Lanka Navy, in keeping with naval traditions at the Port of Colombo.

The 150.5m long JMSDF OONAMI is commanded by Commander IIO Hiromasa.

During the stay in the island, crew members of the ship explored some tourist attractions in Colombo. The itinerary also included a coastal clean-up drive participated by naval personnel of both countries and engagements with the Sri Lanka Navy, designed to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation.

Cabinet nod to amend Central Cultural Fund Act No. 57 of 1980

The Central Cultural Fund established under the provisions of the Central Cultural Fund Act No. 57 of 1980 is responsible for development of cultural and religious monuments in Sri Lanka, settling the expenditure borne for development, renovation and conservation of local and foreign cultural monuments, awarding financial donations for artisans as well as awarding those who served the nation in the fields of culture and religious sectors.

The said act has been passed in  Parliament 45 years back and, the requirement to revise the provisions of the act according to the contemporary requirements haa been recognized.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted their policy
approval to amend the said act, considering the resolution furnished by the Minister of Buddhasashana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.
