House sittings to continue while taking all precautions
The Committee on Parliamentary Business yesterday decided to continue the sittings of Parliament while closely monitoring the COVID 19 threat that has resurfaced in the country, Department of Communication of Parliament said.
Accordingly, the Second Reading of the Nation Building Tax (Amendment) Bill, the Second Reading of the Economic Service Charge (Amendment) Bill and the Second Reading of the Ports and Airports Development Levy (Amendment) Bill will be taken up for debate today (7).
At that meeting, chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, the party leaders decided to reconvene the Committee on Parliamentary Business this afternoon and take a final decision regarding the continuation of the sittings of Parliament.
However, it had been decided to suspend scheduled committee meetings convened for today, the Department of Communication said. (SI)

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the resolution furnished by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation to implement the National Civil Aviation Master Plan which has been formulated as recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Implementation of Loan Scheme for the Development of Young Entrepreneurs in the Agricultural and Industrial Sectors
According to the policies of the government, steps should be taken to provide financial facilities and guidance to produce 50,000 entrepreneurs within five years.
As a measure to achieve this objective, an allocation of Rs. 500 million was made through the 2025 Budget Proposal to implement a concessionary loan scheme.
Cabinet approval was granted at the meeting held on
18-08-2025 to utilize the said fund for the implementation of the loan scheme for the Development of Young Entrepreneurs in the Agricultural and Industrial Sectors. Furthermore, Rs. 750 million has also been allocated through the Budget 2026 to continue the implementation of this loan scheme.
The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to grant its consent to implement the aforementioned loan scheme under a 4% annual interest rate through the People’s Bank, Bank of Ceylon, and Rural Development Bank and to issue relevant operational guidelines
