28th Singer- MCA Premier League & T20 Cricket Tournament 2021 postponed

VP/MCA, Nalin Wickramasinghe, General Secretary/MCA, Sirosha Gunatillake and Chairman, Tournament Committee /MCA, Tarindra Kaluperuma.

The 28th Singer- MCA Premier League and the T20 Cricket Tournament 2021 was once again postponed, due to the SLC Invitation T20 League, which is now in progress at the Pallekele Stadium.

The League Stage (50 overs) got off to a start on April 20 with the participation of four teams, namely – Hayleys Group, John Keells Group, HNB and Citizens Development Business Finance (CDB).

The tournament went on smoothly up to April 27, completing eight matches, but stopped on its tracks due to the thirdnwave of the ongoing pandemic.

Subsequently, the MCA Tournament Committee decided to re-start the tournament where it stopped, August,10 but their efforts went in vain, due to clashing with the SLC T20.

The official sponsorship presentation took place at the MCA Pavilion Lawn recently, where Marketing Director, Singer Sri Lanka PLC, Shanil Perera handed over the package to the President, MCA, Rohana Dissanayake.

Following are the results of the eight matches completed:

Hayleys beat HNB by five wickets at MCA; CDB beat John Keells by two wickets at SSC; Hayleys beat CDB by 96 runs at SSC; John Keells beat HNB by nine runs at P. Sara Oval; HNB beat CDB by 10 runs at NCC ; Hayleys beat John Keells by two wickets at P. Sara Oval; Hayleys beat HNB by two wickets at P. Sara Oval and John Keells beat CDB by 54 runs at NCC.

Unbeaten, Hayleys Group head the table with four wins out of four, followed by HNB with two wins and two defeats; HNB and CDB have one win and three defeats.

Innovative Production Group (IPG), the tournament rights holder of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), in consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has terminated the franchise agreement with Sports Commune, which was granted franchise rights of the Jaffna Kings.

The termination follows the franchisee’s inability to fulfil its financial obligations under the terms of the franchise agreement. As a result, all rights relating to the Jaffna Kings franchise have reverted to IPG, which, together with Sri Lanka Cricket, has assumed full operational control of the team.

IPG confirms that the 6th edition of the LPL will proceed as scheduled and Jaffna Kings will continue to participate in the tournament under the same nomenclature, with no changes to the squad, tournament format, or match schedule.

To ensure the uninterrupted operation of the franchise, IPG and Sri Lanka Cricket have taken complete responsibility for all player, coaching staff, and support staff contracts. The organizers also confirm that all logistical arrangements for the team have been secured, ensuring the squad is intact for the tournament.

Furthermore, approximately 90% of all player and staff payments have already been completed, with the remaining payments to be settled in accordance with contractual commitments.

IPG and Sri Lanka Cricket remain committed to delivering a successful sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and transparency for players, teams, commercial partners, and fans.
