‘Ceylinco VIP Cyber Tharu’ to showcase Sri Lankan talent with prize money worth Rs 2 Million!

Ceylinco General Insurance has announced an online competition with a novel concept to showcase Sri Lankan talent by providing a platform for them with the opportunity to win handsome cash prizes.
“This time, our effort is to organize an online competition that provides an opportunity for Sri Lankan people to display their talent and also to identify hidden talents whilst rewarding them. There will be five overall winners whose prize money will be over Rs. 1 million and each category winner will get Rs 100,000/-. Ten randomly picked voters too will receive handsome cash awards,” said Mr. Patrick Alwis, Chairman CEO of Ceylinco General Insurance.
The guidelines and the criteria of the competition were announced recently through a dedicated website and other social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, twitter, You Tube as well as LinkedIn. Contestants can perform under five categories, namely, singing, dancing, instrumental performances, fashion modelling and funny videos / Standup comedy. Individuals over 18 years could perform under the individual category whilst the group category will have no age limit. Under the group category either families or a group of friends could take part. Each entry will have to be specially recorded for this competition. Prior to recording the performance, they should download the image of the logo and have it displayed prominently in the background. Performances could be recorded using a smart phone or a video cam.
Also, a special website has been hosted for this purpose where interested contestants can view all details relating to the guidelines, criteria and regulations of the competition in all three languages. This website, www.ceylincovipcybertharu.com will be the official site on which the contestants should upload video clips of their performances. Contestants will be given a 20-day period starting from 20th April to 10th May to record and upload their performances to the website.
Once the video clips are received, they will be sent to an eminent panel of judges comprising of industry professionals such as Bhathiya & Santhush, Pooja Umashankar and Ramod Malaka who will scrutinize them carefully and select the best 20% from each category.
The uniqueness of the competition is that the selected performances will be sent back to the participants for them to post them on their individual social media platforms. Thereafter, they can encourage their friends and followers to vote for them through the website.
Contestants who receive the highest number of votes will be selected as winners. Each category will have a winner whilst an overall winner too will be selected together with four runner-ups. In addition to these, 10 winners will be selected among the voters on a random basis to encourage maximum participation.

Ministerial committee appointed to review and further enhance ‘State Commercial Enterprises Management draft bill’

It has been recognized that the state enterprises should be re – structured and maintained with proper administration with the assistance of local or foreign investments without being a continuous burden to the General Treasury and the country’s economy. Therefore, it is the policy of the new government to introduce an efficient and accountable mechanism in the regard. An initial draft named “State Commercial Enterprises Management Draft Bill” has been already prepared to introduce a new legal framework required for maintaining after performing necessary restructuring and with proper management of government owned business companies. Thereon, it will be possible to totally free the state entrepreneurship establishments from political influences and appoint professionals with proficiency for its board of directors.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal furnished by the President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Plan Implementation and Economic Development to grant policy approval of the Cabinet of Ministers for the said initial draft and appoint a special committee with the following composition to submit appropriate proposals for further enhancing after reviewing the initial draft:

• Hon. Sunil Handunneththi Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship

Cabinet gives green light for the introduction of new laws and amendment of existing acts in regard to the subject area of the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities

As revising the existing acts and formulation of new acts within the year of 2025 has been recognized as a necessity, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval for the proposal furnished by the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities to include introduction of the following new laws and amendment of acts to the government laws formulation programme for the year 2025.
• Amendment of Tea, Rubber and Coconut Estates (Control of Fragmentation) Act No. 2 of 1958
• Amendment of Samumyamoothi Thandaman Memorial Foundation Act No. 19 of 2005
• Amendment of Tea Shakthi Fund Act No. 47 of 2000
• Amendment of Tea Control Act No. 51 of 1957
• Amendment of Rubber Control Act No. 11 of 1956
• Introduction of a new act named Plantation Management Act
• Introduction of a new act to entrust the Department of Rubber Development with powers of the Thurusaviya Societies.
• Introduction of amendments to Coconut Development Act No. 46 of 1971 so that new regulations can be included to the act
• Amendments related to Tea Board Act No 14 of 1975 and regulations
