Showery condition over the island is expected to reduce from tomorrow (15th)

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Kaluthara, Galle, Matara and Rathnapura districts after 4.00 p.m. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

Advisory for Severe Lightning Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 11.30 a.m. 14 February 2026 valid for the period until 11.30 p.m. 14 February 2026

Thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in Badulla and Nuwara-Eliya districts after 1.00 p.m.  There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

ACTION REQUIRED:

The Department of Meteorology advises that people should:
 Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
 Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
 Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
 Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
 Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
 For emergency assistance contact the local disaster management authorities.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 14 FEBRUARY 2026
Issued at 2.00 p.m. on 13 February 2026 by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva, Eastern and Northern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Uva and Central provinces and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts. Several spells of showers will occur in Anuradhapura district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 1.00 p.m. and fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
