Forty years of CRL
The Risen Lord Community, popularly known as the “CRL”, is a Catholic lay community under the auspices of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka and is a member of the Catholic National Commission for Laity. The CRL is known for its Four Step retreats and prayer meetings that have led people to have powerful life changing experiences. Many have been freed from addictions, broken families have been restored and others have found new meaning to their lives through a renewed relationship with God.
The CRL traces its origins to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the late ’70s and ’80s, known in Sri Lanka as the “Kithu Dana Pubuduwa” founded by Rev. Fr. Oscar Abayaratne. He inspired the lay of their call to mission according to the Second Vatican Council teachings. In this background, the CRL came into existence in 1984 as a Covenant Community within the Pubuduwa. Its humble beginnings were at Lalith and Mercia Perera’s home, with a small group of people.
2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the Community and CRL invites the public to a gathering of prayer and reflection on May 25, 2024, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at St. Joseph’s College Auditorium, Colombo 10.
