Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 15 November 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers will occur in coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces during the morning while showers or thunder will occur at times in Northern and Northwestern provinces and at several places elsewhere after 02.00 p.m.Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Northern, North-central, North-western and Eastern provinces.

Winds will be South-westernly or variable in direction and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar may be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 01 September 2026 by the Department of Meteorology

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m. Dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.
