More Indian poachers, trawlers held in north

The Sri Lanka Navy over the weekend took five Indian trawlers into custody along with 27 fishermen off Mannar, near Delft and Kachchativu islands in the north.

A senior Navy headquarters official told The Island that the arrests had been made by naval units deployed to chase away clusters of poaching trawlers. The SLN so far this year has detained 22 Indian poaching trawlers and apprehended 137 Indian fishermen, the official said. Following these apprehensions, the poaching trawlers and fishermen have been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action, he said.

Republic of Korea Navy Ship Kang Gam Chan calls at Port of Colombo

The Republic of Korea Navy Ship Kang Gam Chan arrived at the Port of Colombo on a replenishment visit this morning (22 Apr 25).

The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.

Kang Gam Chan is a 149.5m long Destroyer commanded by Captain Kuon Yong Gu,  and   is manned by a crew of 262.

The ship is scheduled to depart the island on 24 Apr.
