42nd anniversary of Navaliya

The Navaliya weekly, published by the Upali Newspapers Ltd., marked its 42nd anniversary on Friday with the participation of UNL Chairperson Mrs. Lakmani R. Welgama at the UNL office premises in Bloemendhal Road, Colombo 13.

Also present on the occasion were brand director Karishma Welgama, Director of Upali Group of Companies Lahiru Gunasekara, and special guests.

On August 3, 1982, based on a concept of the late Upali Wijewardene, founder of the Upali Group of Companies, Navaliya was launched.

Special guests included Professor Kusumalatha Lankamulla, Head of the Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and senior television journalist Tanuja Jayewardene, who delivered keynote speeches on “The Modern Role of Women’s Magazines” and “The Role of Women’s Magazines in the Digital Space.”

Additionally, Gaminda Priyaviraj and Sunil Chithrananda (Chuti Malli and Podi Malli duo) presented a comedy act, and special tokens of appreciation was given to the female pilots of the Sri Lanka Air Force who adorned the cover of this year’s Navaliya anniversary edition.
