1st Woman Rotary President in Sri Lanka

Rotary International the foremost service organization in the world that has a seat in the UN General Assembly has selected Sri Lanka for the world President to visit under the theme ” Imagine Tour of Jennifer Jones”.
The 1st Woman President Globally of Rotary International- Jennifer Jones is the Founder President of Media Street Productions Inc..a twenty five year old award winning media company based in Ontario, Canada.
Her talents have strengthened Rotary impact globally and has held key roles in the hierarchy of Rotary such as Rotary Foundation Chair, Rotary International Vice President and Co- Chair of the ” End Polio Now: Make
History Today campaign by raising funds along side Bill and Melinda Gates and their foundation.
Jennifer has earned respect in the world of Rotary for ” Experiential fund raising” such Rotary Polio Golf Day with Jack Nicklaus in Florida, USA which netted in $ 5.25 million for polio eradication in one day. Working along side political figures, celebrities and global leaders she uses her voice to raise awareness and raise hundreds of millions of dollars to eradicate decease support peace, provide clean water and sanitation in the developing world. Her expert skill of story telling inspires hope and promise and motivates people to take action.
Some of the many awards and recognition includes Rotary’s service above self Award, Citation for Meritorious Service, the YMCA Peace Medallion, the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The 1st Women International Rotary Jennifer Jones in Sri Lanka will officially launch many a flagship projects in the country whilst also motivating the Rotarians, young Rotaractors and energetic Interactors of Sri Lanka to continue with the good work currently done.
The RI President Jeniffer will visit the Stock Exchange of Sri Lanka to highlight the importance of Environmental sustainability and responsibility by the private sector that includes Gender Diversity and inclusive decision
making in the corporate world.
Jennifer Jone’s highlight will be the hand over of the first consignment of
Medicines to the Ministry of Health of needy medicines in the $10 million
Life Line project that is funded by Rotary for the people of Sri Lanka in
partnership with UNICEF.
Given the importance of youth, Rotary will also provide 500 IT scholarships
from a campus in Philippines together with the Sri Lankan embassy in
Philippines with the partnering organization being the National Youth
Council, Ministry of Youth Affairs. Finally the RI President will launch
the Cancer detection center in partnership with Ministry of Health.
Rotary is the leading service organization globally and in Sri Lanka it is
the most dynamic humanitarian organization that has a purpose of ‘ Giving
new hope to Sri Lankans which are facing tough configurations due to the
macro economic fall out. We in Rotary will make a difference to your life
said the District Governor for Rotary in Sri Lanka Pubudu De Soyza.
His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe will be in
attendance at the ” Charity Black Tie Dinner” which is brought together with
Sri Lanka Tourism said Gowri Rajan the Chairperson of Jennifer Jones Visit
to Sri Lanka.

Central Bank Presents Annual Economic Review 2024 to President

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka today (07) presented its flagship publication, the Annual Economic Review for 2024 (AER 2024), to President and Minister of Finance, Anura Kumara Disanayake, highlighting the steady progress of Sri Lanka’s economic recovery following the country’s most severe downturn in recent history.
The report was officially handed over by Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank, during a special ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat.
AER 2024 comprises four main chapters: Macroeconomic Developments, Conditions of the Financial System, Review of Central Bank’s Policies and Macroeconomic Outlook.
According to the Review, the Sri Lankan economy showed significant signs of recovery in 2024, following the deep economic crisis experienced two years ago. The recovery trajectory, though challenging, has been notably faster than that of many other debt-distressed countries.
Improvements in economic activity, a partial resurgence in purchasing power and reduced uncertainty are among the key positive indicators noted in the report.
The event was attended by Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President, K. M. Mahinda Siriwardena, Secretary to the Treasury, Mrs. K. M. A. N. Daulagala, Senior Deputy Governor, Dr. C. Ceylon Energy and HJT China complete key power projects under SESRIP in Sri Lanka

Ceylon Energy and HJT China have successfully completed the Mahiyangana-Kappalthurei 33kV power distribution lines and the Uhana Gantry as part of Sri Lanka’s Supporting Electricity Supply Reliability Improvement Project (SESRIP). Funded by the Asian Development Bank ($42 million), SESRIP aims to expand energy access in underserved regions, including conflict-affected areas and provinces like Uva and North Central.
The project’s infrastructure spans over 270 km of 33kV lines, 13 switching gantries, and 2,372 km of low-voltage extensions.
The projects connect 35,000+ households and improve reliability for 493,000+ consumers; integrates renewables to reduce losses.
The projects’ notable components include: Mahiyangana-Bibila Line: 36 km with 147 steel towers and Kappalthurei-Sixth Mile Post Line: 14 km with 58 towers.
Ceylon Energy Chairman Madushanka Fernando hailed it as a ‘new beginning of a brighter era’, emphasising the project’s role in uplifting rural communities and driving sustainable development.
The initiative underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to inclusive, reliable energy and climate resilience.
