Udaya hits out at NPP over weak response to UK sanctions

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya Leader Udaya Gammanpila alleged yesterday that the NPP government’s response to the UK sanctioning Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, retired Generals Shavendra Silva and Jagath Jayasuriya and ex-LTTEer Karuna Amman was wholly inadequate.
Former minister and attorney-at-law Gammanpila said that the government should have made use of the opportunity to set the record straight. Unfortunately, the Foreign Ministry statement had failed to address the issue properly, he said.
The former lawmaker said that sanctions had been declared on the basis of some allegations that weren’t proved in any court of law.Gammanpila urged the government to protect the interests of the armed forces and police and not to cooperate with those seeking to punish Sri Lanka for eradicating terrorism.
