Several spells of light showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night.
Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Winds will be south-westerly in the sea areas around the island. The wind speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Mullaitivu, Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in these sea areas while wind speed will be (25-35) kmph in the other sea areas.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Mullaitivu, Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be rough at times. The other sea areas can be moderate. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive in this regard.

Warning for strong winds and rough seas issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 06.00 a.m. 01 July 2024. Valid for the next 24hours.
Very strong winds (70-80) kmph, and very rough seas are likely over Arabian Sea area (in sea areas bounded by (07N – 20N) and (55E – 68E)) due to the active south-west monsoonal condition.
Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas marked by RED color on the map above until further notice.
Actions Required:
• Those who are out at aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas immediately.
• Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
