Justice Minister Sabry disassociates his Ministry with recruitment of quazis

Minister of Justice Ali Sabry yesterday said that his Ministry had nothing to do with the recruitment of quazis for the Muslim quazi court system. There were newspaper advertisements during the last few days announcing vacancies for a number of quazi courts across the country.

Sabry made the statement addressing the media in Colombo yesterday.

“This has nothing to do with me. A wrong impression has been created by a group carrying out a systematic campaign. The advert was published by the Judicial Services Commmission and its head is the Chief Justice. This is an independent commission created by the constitution. I have no power over it.”

The Minister said that the quazi system had been in place for 70 years in the country and the announcement was to fill vacancies.
