ITAK reaffirms support for Sajith Premadasa

The Ilangai Tamil Arasu Party’s (ITAK) decision to support Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa remained unchanged, ITAK MP M.A. Sumanthiran stated yesterday (12) in response to reports suggesting the party had withdrawn its support for Premadasa.
Sumanthiran emphasised that the decision to back Premadasa had been made following proper procedures and all party members had endorsed it. He acknowledged that some ITAK MPs had called for a reconsideration of the party’s backing of the SJB candidate.
“Mavai Senathirajah and Sreedharan suggested that we reconsider the party’s decision. However, we have maintained that there is no need for a reconsideration. It was a decision taken through the correct procedures, and now both of them have accepted it. As a result, they have agreed that future discussions with Premadasa should continue,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of having to work with Anura Kumara Dissanayake if he became the President, Sumanthiran expressed ITAK’s willingness to do so.
