Highways Minister says a major bottleneck on Pamankada-Wellawatte will be cleared soon

Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando yesterday said that upgrading of W.A. de Silva Mawatha connecting Wellawatte with Sri Sumbuddhatva Jayanthi Mawatha on Colombo-Horana road, into a four-lane road had reached its final stages.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said the development of the stretch of road would enable to convert the one-way road from via Pamankada-Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mawatha (Havelock Road) to a two-way route reducing heavy traffic in Kohuwala and Pamankada.

The project to develop those roads and widening of the Pamankada Bridge was carried out by the Southern Road Connectivity Project at a cost of Rs 210 million, the Minister said.
