Fadna Tea (Pvt.) Ltd., a pioneer in the Sri Lankan herbal tea industry, is making waves with the launch of their new product, “Diabe Tea-Sabaragamuwa”. Fadna introduced the concept of sharing the natural goodness of conventional beverages with the world and now brings its own functional herbal tea products by preserving their natural goodness, while conforming to international standards.
This product uses 100% natural ingredients to maximise its benefits for patients suffering with blood sugar-related disorders. Understanding the challenges faced by such patients in society, Fadna Tea was motivated to develop a product that would somewhat alleviate their daily struggles. The product is developed in collaboration with the Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development Operation (AHEAD) and the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Sabaragamuwa University.
Speaking about the project, Sabaragamuwa University Vice Chancellor Senior Prof. Udaya Rathanayake stated: “As a university, we are continuously engaging in these types of product development projects, and launching and commercializing Diabe Tea-Sabaragamuwa is a great initiative as well as a motive for upcoming projects. We expect to do these types of projects similarly with Fadna and also other companies for the betterment of society.”
Fadna Tea Managing Director Chamendra Somatunga said: “Innovation associated with problem solving is vital for the development of societies and countries. Commercializing products that are born out of this innovativeness not only opens up new avenues for people, especially those suffering from blood sugar-related disorders, to adopt healthier lifestyles, but also supports the local economy. The special flight was operated by Air Astana, the national carrier of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with LSR as the ground handler.
This inaugural flight for the 2025/2026 winter season carried 166 passengers aboard an Airbus A321. Air Astana will continue operations until March 2026, with two weekly flights (Monday and Thursday) connecting Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, to Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.

Suzuki urges Fronx owners: ‘Do not use rear seats’ following serious seatbelt failure
Suzuki has warned owners of its new Suzuki Fronx to stop carrying passengers in the rear seats after a seatbelt failure was discovered during independent crash testing in Australia.
The issue was identified by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), which said the rear seatbelt retractor failed during testing, causing the belt to release and leaving the crash-test dummy unrestrained.
ANCAP Chief Executive Carla Hoorweg said adults and children should not travel in the back seats of the vehicle until the cause of the failure is determined and repairs are completed, calling the defect “rare and serious.”
Suzuki has issued a recall covering 324 vehicles in Australia, instructing owners to immediately stop using the rear seats. The company said the defect could allow excessive belt length to be released during a crash or heavy braking.
Suzuki said customer safety remains its highest priority but has not yet detailed how the issue will be fixed. The Fronx, a budget SUV manufactured in India, was launched in Australia in August, with about 1,600 units sold locally.
ANCAP said the failure follows similar component issues recently identified in other low-cost models and urged manufacturers to submit vehicles for testing before market release.
