Ceylon Theatres and British Council join hands to screen the UK’s National Theatre Live here
Ceylon Theatres has joined the British Council to bring the UK’s National Theatre Live (NT Live) to Sri Lankan audiences. The British Council has declared its support to the NT Live screenings, in 2023/24, as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of UK-Sri Lanka diplomatic ties.
Ceylon Theatres said that this will allow a wider audience to enjoy and experience world class UK Arts.
National Theatre Live is an initiative operated by the Royal National Theatre in London. It broadcasts live, by satellite, performances of their productions to cinemas and arts centres around the world. Ceylon Theatres operates the Regal cinemas and the Majestic cinema in Sri Lanka, which collectively has 18 screens across the country in seven locations.
Ceylon Theatres have made arrangements to screen two iconic productions for a limited time period – Yann Martel’s “Life of Pi” and William Shakespeare’s “Othello”. The screenings are scheduled to take place at the Majestic Cinema Colombo and Regal Cinema Jaffna. “Life of Pi” will be screened on Sept. 16th and 17th at the Majestic Cinema. Shakespeare’s “Othello” will be screened on Sept. 23rd, 24th, 30th and 1st October at the Majestic Cinema, and October 7th at the Regal Cinema Jaffna.
