Vibuda, Luca, Anika, Savini advance to finals
105th Colombo Championships
Vibuda Wijebandara will meet Luca Knese in the final of the men’s singles as the duo won their semi-final matches of the 105th Colombo Championships at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association clay courts on Thursday.
Wijebandara edged out Thehan Wijemanne 6-3, 7-5 in a hard fought semi-final, while Luca Knese beat Dumidu Dilum 6-1, 6-4 in the other semi-final.
The finals will be played on Saturday.
In the women’s singles, reigning national champion Anika Seneviratne will meet Savini Jayasuriya in the finals, which will also be played on Saturday.
Seneviratne beat Oneli Perera 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the semi-final yesterday.
In the other semi-final, which lasted nearly three hours, Savini Jayasuriya beat Janali Manamperi 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 to secure a place in the final. Manamperi was the runner up to Seneviratne at the recently held nationals. (RF)
