Vavuniya prison could become Covid-19 hotspot

The Vavuniya prison could become COVID-19 hotspot as 11 officers and 13 inmates had tested positive for the disease, officials there warned yesterday.

Since 11 officers were undergoing treatment, others were burdened with additional work in the congested prison.

Meanwhile, 13 more COVID-19 cases were detected on Thursday in Vavuniya.

Given the spike in COVID-19 cases Health Officers have also disinfected the Vavuniya Hospital.

Thirty two COVID-19 cases have been admitted to the Vavuniya General Hospital and some of them have been sent to treatment centres in Vavuniya and Kilinochchi.
