USD 3.9 mn Korean boost for shrimp aquaculture sector
Korea has pledged USD 1.2 mn to strengthen shrimp aquaculture sector here. According to a statement issued by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), yesterday (08) the investment would be made through the UN agency in terms of a global project with the total investment here estimated at USD 3.9 mn.
The FAO said that the project would be implemented over a three-year period to build national capacity on various aspects of health management, bio-security, food safety, analysis of bio-security systems and establish robust, disease early warning and monitoring systems meant to support the sustainable development of the shrimp aquaculture sector.
Speaking at the launch of the project, South Korean Ambassador in Colombo Santhush Woonjin Jeong stated “Sri Lanka is rich in human and natural resources. This project is a great collaboration of the resources of Sri Lanka and Korea that will help realise the potential of this beautiful country and achieve our common goals.”
