By Ifham Nizam
Some Trade Unions, attached to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), are scheduled to carry out a protest campaign today (22) against Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara. The trade unions have informed Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera that they are opposed to the proposed restructuring of the CPC.
However, the Minister has said that they respect the right to protest but the restructuring of the debt ridden institutions is of paramount importance. The Minister has recently appointed a seven-member committee to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board, as well.
The Committee has been tasked with evaluating suitable companies to import, distribute and sell petroleum products, and accordingly, multiple companies will get to engage in the Petroleum Industry here with CPC and LIOC.
