UNDP and VTA enter into a partnership to develop future-fit skills of Sri Lankan youth
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop and expand work towards building a future-fit young generation through proposed programmatic interventions.
The MOU will serve to establish and implement joint efforts to bridge the gap between future of work and entrepreneurship and youth capacity building.
It was signed by Robert Juhkam, Resident Representative of UNDP in Sri Lanka and Damitha Wickramasinghe, Chairman of VTA. Also present were Sanjaya Jayamanna, Vice Chairman and Saman Kulasuriya, Director, Career Guidance and Promotion of VTA.
The objective of the MoU is to jointly design and implement capacity and skill enhancement programs for young people enrolled with the VTA. The programs will focus on Leadership, Innovation and Entrepreneurship skills and will be carried out through UNDP Sri Lanka’s HackaDev Academy of Skills and Learning.
Further, they will collaborate on the institutional strengthening of VTA including the teaching capacity of VTA program officers, and improving the digital infrastructure of the institution.
This initiative is part of UNDP’s long-term partnerships with the TVET sector institutions in Sri Lanka.
