Two govt. MPs remanded over unprovoked attacks

The Fort Magistrate yesterday (18) remanded Puttalam District SLPP MP Sanath Nishantha and Gampaha District SLPP MP Milan Jayathilake till 25 May pending further investigations into an unprovoked attack on a group of anti-government protesters.

The CID arrested them on Tuesday. Of the lawmakers, whose passports had been impounded by the Fort Magistrate following submissions made by the Attorney General, only former State Minister Sanath Nishantha had been arrested so far.

The Fort Magistrate also impounded passports of former PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, and MPs Namal Rajapaksa, Pavitra Wanniarachchi, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Johnston Fernando and Sanjeewa Edirimanne. (SF)
