Two cops apprehended for robbing businessman

Keselwatta police have arrested two police constables for allegedly forcing a businessman to hand them over Rs 2.6 mn recently.

Sources said that the suspects were attached to Welikada police. Investigations have revealed that the suspects along with an army deserter had obtained money on two occasions accusing the businessman of illegal money transfers. The police are looking for the deserter. Sources said that the constables who had been interdicted pending investigations acted on information provided by a close associate of the businessman. Police have also taken him into custody. Sources said that investigators had confirmed the identity of the police constables by examining CCTV footage (NP)
