TNA asks Speaker to name MP who seeks Rs 1 bn as compensation for property damaged on 09 May

The Tamil National Alliance yesterday (7) asked Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to name the Minister who had asked for over one billion rupees as compensation for property allegedly destroyed by angry protesters on 09 May.

TNA Batticaloa MP Shanikyan Rasamanikkam, participating in a Parliament debate on malnutrition of children and mothers, said that the House had a right to know who had submitted a claim for Rs 1,000 million as compenation for property loss during the unrest in May. “There are media reports that a politician has sought one billion rupees, claiming that his properties were damaged by mobs. Who is this politician? How could he amass such wealth? Has he declared his assets? We urge the Speaker to find the name of this politician,” MP Rasamanikkam said.

Rasamanikkam said that there werereports that assessors were in difficulty as they are inundated with false claims.

“We warn President Ranil Wickremesinghe of the dangers of associating himself with these fraudsters.
