Tissa defends MPs right to have jab on priority basis
By Anuradha Hiripitiyage
The MPs had the right to take the COVID-19 vaccine if they like and no one should object to it, SJB National Organiser MP Tissa Attanayake told The Island yesterday commenting on the debate whether MPs should get vaccinated along with frontline health staff.
“I took the vaccine. Earlier, I was a first ring associate of MP Rauff Hakeem. I also met former Minister W. J. M. Lokubandara, who passed away from COVID-19 recently. We always meet people and therefore expose ourselves to the virus. So, I think we should take the jab.”
SJB National Organiser added that some MPs may be convinced otherwise. However, the government must take steps to vaccinate everyone soon, he said.
“The government must order enough doses of vaccines for that purpose,” Attanayake said.
