Those who failed to prevent carnage going places -Cardinal

Easter Sunday terror attacks:
Those accused of serious lapses, that led to the Easter Sunday terror attacks, were still engaged in active politics, Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, said on Sunday. The Cardinal said so during a religious ceremony at the Mutwal Church. He said some of those who had failed to prevent the Easter Sunday carnage, despite having received warnings, continued to hold high posts in the Police Department.
The Cardinal said that the rich and the powerful were above the law, and the Church, and the concerned Sri Lankans, had been calling for an independent investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks, and legal action against the culprits, for the last three years or so. “But nothing has been done to punish those who are responsible,” he said.
The Cardinal added that in January 2022, police had arrested several workers, attached to the Borella All Saints Church, alleging that they had planted a bomb at the church premises. They had been detained for over a month on trumped up charges, he said. The Archbishop added that there had been no impartial investigation into the incident, and those who betrayed principles due to greed were responsible for inflicting suffering on the public.
