The Steel Foundation
By Lynn Ockersz
The Willow-worshipping Isle,
Is beside itself with despair,
Owing to an ICC diktat,
Quite draconian in its impact,
But it could now think long,
On where it went wrong,
For, it cast to the margins,
Athletics, the steel foundation,
Of all sports from ancient times,
Which alone helps to build,
Stamina, muscle and sinew,
And guards against ‘injuries’,
That floor our flannelled gents,
And behold Athletics’ silent service,
For it has done the land proud,
With no razzle-dazzle and fanfare.
