The giving side of Sunil Perera
My heartfelt condolences on the death of a sensational musician who changed the landscape of this country’s music industry. He also had a side not very many may know of – a good, humane charitable nature.I can vouch how supportive he was of the Foundation of Goodness’ humanitarian initiatives where he silently honoured a standing order monthly for over five years and the many unforgettable discussions he had with me about the future well-being of our Nation. He was forthright, upright and straight as an arrow expressing his views without fear or favour. May his legacy live on, and the way he communicated his message through music to make us think of doing what is right for the good of our Nation.Post Tsunami he came with Piyal to Seeenigama a couple of months after the disaster and together they both entertained those who were traumatized, their music providing a form of healing therapy. The typical Sunil brand of display was certainly valued by the devastated villagers. His knowledge on Buddhism, especially being a non-Buddhist, was admirable and his ability to communicate in general the way he did was truly a special talent.I value his tremendous heart, seeing the plight of those in need. May those good deeds he undertook benefit his sansaric journey.
