The Asian Zonal Hybrid Chess Championship 2021 starts today
The Asian Zonal Chess Championship 2021. the preliminary event for the FIDE World Chess Cup 2021 for the South Asia will commence today on the Tornelo platform. Chess players from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives, Bhutan and Sri Lanka will compete for the supremacy in the region.
Sri Lanka has fielded a strong team headed by the National Chess Champion Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage (Ananda College). The other two members are Susal de Silva (Nalanda College) and Buddhika Amarasinghe of SJP Chess Club.
This year the event is conducted by the Bangladesh Chess Federation and it will be held according to the Swiss System of nine rounds. The games will be held from 3.00 – 8.30 p.m each day and will conclude on June 9.
Players competing from different venues will be playing under the supervision of a local Chief Arbiter while the he is monitored electronically by the tournament arbiters using two camera through Zoom.
Sri Lankan players will compete from the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka headquarters, Gangodawila, Nugegoda.
The Chess Federation has arranged Grandmaster Alexie Barasov of Uzbekistan to train country’s players.
