Tamil Union win one-day title
Tamil Union cruised to a comfortable seven wicket win with 34 balls to spare in the finals of the domestic one-day competition beating Army at SSC yesterday.
Army were the in form team in the competition having maintained an unbeaten run but faulted in the final hurdle. Army were handicapped as the in form Dinesh Chandimal had to pull out of the game due to a death in the family.
After electing to bat first, Army slumped to 45 for four as Santhush Gunatilleke picked up three wickets. Isuru Udana knocked off the lower order with three wickets while Army suffered a massive blow when captain Thisara Perera was dismissed for a duck.
Chasing a revised target of 153 from 37 overs, Tamil Union cruised to victory after Sadeera Samarawickrama smashed an unbeaten half-century.
