Stars…in the ‘new normal’

It’s encouraging to see some of my pals, on Facebook, getting actively involved in the teledrama scene, and music videos, as well.

Yes, new faces are always welcomed, and some of the new comers, who also happen to be my FB pals, include Nethmi Sathsarani (ghost scene in ‘Deep Shadows’), Dulmi Nimesha (policewoman in ‘Wings of Fire’ – Swarnavahini, weekdays, 7. 30 pm), Samadhi Wandana Kothalawala (teledramas, movies, commercials and music videos) and now Ferry Jonathan Silva.

Ferry Jonathan, who hails from Girulle, in Kurunagala, was very much into cricket, and athletics, before making his presence felt as an actor.

He played cricket for the two schools he attended – Wickramashila National School, Giriulla, and Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala – and was also a member of the Sri Lanka Under-15 cricket team.

Ferry Jonathan says the turning point, in his career as an actor, came when he participated in a Sirasa Awurudu Kumara contest, held a few years ago.

That particular contest got him his first teledrama – Sanath Abaysekara’s ‘Urumayaka Aragalaya,’ which was shown on Hiru TV.

Then came Tikiri Rathnayaka’s ‘Muthu Kuda’ (Derena TV), and ‘Donakatharina,’ followed by Janaka Adasooriya’s ‘Kemmura Kaluwara.’

Well, you still have the opportunity of seeing this guy in action as he plays the role of Hesha in Heshan Galapaththi’s ‘Ahas Maliga’ – shown daily on Hiru TV, at 8.30 pm.

Ferry Jonathan has big plans for the future and will be seen in many more teledramas, including Sampath Wickrmasinghe’s ‘Sitin Giya Durak.’

He also has plans to release a song and his dream, he says, is to become a popular actor in Sri Lanka.

“My favourite actor is Tiger Shroff, from India, and one day I want be like him.”

Ferry Jonathan is the only kid in the family and the kind of songs he loves, he says, are those with a love theme.

As for clothes! They have to be different, in style. “I don’t fancy wearing the usual stuff.”
