Sri Lanka Under 19s eliminated from Asia Cup
Five-time finalists Sri Lanka Under 19s suffered their second consecutive defeat in the tournament to be eliminated after the group stage of the Under 19 Asia Cup in Dubai yesterday.
Put to bat Sri Lanka Under 19s could muster only 199 runs in their allotted 50 overs against Bangladesh who later reached the target with nine overs to spare. Bangladesh advanced to the semi-finals as an unbeaten team from group ‘B’.
United Arab Emirates competing in the same group were the other team to secure the semi-final spot.
Sri Lanka’s only victory in the tournament came against minnows Japan.
Sri Lanka were expected to reach the semi-finals alongside Bangladesh but the defeat at the hands of UAE cost them dearly. Sri Lanka were the runners up to India at the last edition also hosted by UAE.
India and Pakistan advanced to semi-finals from Group ‘A’.
