Spike in dengue cases; WP worst affected

The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) says it has observed a spike in dengue cases in the country with the Western Province being the most affected region.
There had been 1,601 reported cases within the past two weeks alone, marking a significant increase, compared to the 2,647 cases reported in May, the NDCU said.
The total number of dengue cases reported so far this year has reached 26,521.
The Western Province has reported a staggering 9,772 cases and nine deaths.
The number of high-risk dengue zones has increased due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions in the country.
About 971 cases have been recorded in the first 11 days of this month.
The highest number of dengue cases has been reported from the Colombo District. It is 5,624 cases, followed by Jaffna District with 3,939 cases.
A total of 2,487 dengue cases have been reported from the Gampaha District, 1,986 cases from the Kandy District, 1,441 from the Ratnapura District and 1,372 from the Kalutara District.
