Son arrested for collecting deceased father’s pension

The Panadura South Police have arrested a man for collecting his deceased father’s pension for one and half years fraudulently. His father was an employee of the Department of Survey.

The suspect, a resident of Walana, Panadura, was apprehended after a complaint was lodged by the Panadura Divisional Secretariat with Panadura HQI, Upul Priyankara.

According to the police, the suspect’s father had worked in the Survey Department and retired before passing away. After his death, the mother was entitled to the pension. The suspect had opened a joint account with his mother and begun collecting the pension. His mother passed away one and half years ago, but the suspect continued to collect the pension fraudulently, amounting to over 600,000 rupees.

The suspect is to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
