Soldier drowns in M’kanda reservoir

A soldier guarding the Moragahakanda dam fell into the reservoir below it and died on Sunday (23).

Following the disappearance of the soldier, the sluice gate that allows water to the Ambangaga from the Moragahakanda Reservoir was closed and a search mounted.

The victim’s body was found around midnight.

The victim was identified as Corporal P. H. N Sampath (39) attached to the Dambulu Oya camp of the Sri Lanka 4th Infantry Regiment and providing security to the Moragahakanda dam and the power plant.

He was a resident of Rendawatta, Dadivilla, Elpitiya.

The Naula Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
