SLTB blamed for delays in GPS installation on buses

A company entrusted with establishing a passenger transport management system based on GPS technology recently told the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy and Transport that the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) had not provided necessary data to successfully complete the project.
The SLTB had also not installed the GSP devices on an adequate number of buses, the representatives of the company informed the committee.
The committee instructed the relevant officials to expedite the installation of GPS on SLTB buses.
SLTB officials were also instructed to appear before the committee again after three weeks.
It was also revealed that a separate company had installed a similar system in 135 buses on 12 routes in and around Kadawatha.
State Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Members of Parliament Niroshan Perera, Ashok Abeysinghe, Udayakantha Gunathilake, Premanath C Dolawatta and Kumarasiri Ratnayake were present at this meeting.
